This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.--1 John 4:10-12 (NLT)
Dear God,
Help me to love others as You have loved me, so that You can reveal Yourself to them through me.
May I never
try to understand love by looking at how much I love You—for my love is imperfect
and incomplete.
Rather, help
me understand real love in the example of the sacrifice of Your Son for my sin, which made it possible for You, as a righteous and holy
God, to have fellowship with me.
Since You
loved each one of us that much, how can I refuse to love the objects of so
great a love?
Yet, my love
is imperfect and incomplete. I need Your
love and Your presence to be manifested within me, as I purpose to love others,
so that my love is made perfect and complete, and they can see You!
Help me to love others as You have loved me, so that You can reveal Yourself to them through me.
In the name
of Jesus, Amen.
