This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
—1 John 1:5-7 (NLT)
Holy God, Father of Light,
Help me not to be that liar who says that he has fellowship with You, but chooses, by his actions, to continue to live in spiritual darkness—not putting into practice the Truth of Your Word.
You are light and in You
there is no darkness at all—for You are a Holy God, perfect in all Your
attributes and actions. And though I am
made in Your image, there is yet darkness that exists within me that keeps me
from perfect fellowship with You.
Help me to choose to live
in the fullness of Your light by allowing the light of Christ to live in me—dispelling
any darkness in my heart—cleansing me from all my sin and making it possible
for me to put on His righteousness and have uninterrupted fellowship with You and
more perfect fellowship with others, as well.
Thank You that there is no
darkness—no hint of evil—but only perfect goodness in the One in whom I have
placed my hope!
Help me not to be that liar who says that he has fellowship with You, but chooses, by his actions, to continue to live in spiritual darkness—not putting into practice the Truth of Your Word.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.
